Uric acid accumulates in joints, causing pain. The study did not demonstrate whether the new drug, febuxostat, reduced pain better than the standard drug, allopurinol, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Two to three times as many participants achieved a low level of uric acid with febuxostat as with allopurinol, AP reported.
